Telluride Compared to Three Other Major Colorado Ski Resorts
As a young ski resort community, Telluride has enjoyed remarkable growth in its relatively short ski history. Of course, Aspen and Vail are the "grande dames" of Colorado ski resorts. Every other ski resort aspires to their success. Crested Butte is closer to Telluride's size and volume of business.
The following 2007 chart gives a concise comparison:

When you look at the next graph, it becomes evident that although Aspen and Vail's sales are much bigger, all of the growth patterns are very similar. Having started operations much earlier than Telluride, Aspen and Vail had a big head start, and these resorts are four to five times the size of Telluride in skier days, in bed base, AND in total real estate sales.

Telluride is doing just fine with a healthy 250% growth in real estate sales over the last 10 years. When you consider the stage of maturity of this ski resort at this time, you will realize that Telluride is beginning the greatest growth phase of any resort.

Recent Exciting Developments
Telluride has now gained national recognition as a world-class resort. The recently opened 700-acre Prospect Basin has added a new dimension to the skiing experience. The 2001-2002 season was remarkably successful considering the lower-than-average snowfall. Part of this success was due to increased snowmaking, part to better grooming, part to the expanded terrain, and part to Telluride's unique combination of breathtaking beauty and sophisticated amenities.
In summer 1999, Joe Morita (of Sony Corp.) purchased 50% of Telski. This capital injection assured that the ski resort would be able to make the long-planned expansion into Prospect Basin. The 700 new acres of skiable terrain opened in winter 2001, and the expansion has been enthusiastically received by skiers of all levels. The extreme skiing is exciting, the intermediate trails cruise through the trees, and the beginner runs have lots of space and groomed snow. Three new lifts are operating to serve the new area; planned for the next several years are two more lifts and several new restaurants.
In 2001, total real estate sales for San Miguel County were $430,751,881, not a record (that was set in 2000) but certainly a healthy number when you factor in the declining stock market and the aftermath of September 11. Also, the average price per square foot and the number of home sales both increased in 2001over the year 2000.
Year-to-date sales for homes in the town of Telluride in 2003 (through September) reflect an increase over last years sales. In Mountain Village, although home sales were sluggish in 2002, sales have picked up again in 2003.
Telluride real estate is HOT!!. Come be a part of the experience!
